FLTE (Faculté Libre de Théologie Evangélique à Vaux-sur-Seine)

For nearly 60 years, the Faculty of Free Evangelical Theology (FLTE) has served as a cornerstone of French-speaking evangelical theological education. Founded by 12 Protestant church unions, FLTE has trained thousands of pastors and theological leaders, creating a lasting impact from Europe to Africa.

Its university-level theological education has revolutionized pastoral preparation across denominational lines—Baptist, Methodist, and Pentecostal leaders, in pursuit of theological excellence and providing a safe space for theological dialogue and debate within the protestant evangelical French-speaking world.

At the same time, the evangelical movement is growing very fast in France, and so are its needs, namely:

• 1000 new pastors needed over the next decade (source: National Council of French Evangelicals – CNEF).
• Hundreds of local churches, ministries and organizations operating without theologically trained leadership.

For the last years, the FLTE has expanded its academical offer through:

• Residential Program Reform:
  • Since 2023, the Master’s seminary was redesigned to alternate between academic training and ministry/ internship to enable pastors to be trained at the same time they are developing their ministry.
  • Creation of a foundational year (Theological Certificate), serving as the first year of the bachelor’s degree
• E-Learning (Online Course) Development:
  • 4 to 5 courses launched each year since 2022.
  • Online Theological Certificate introduced.
  • Hybrid bachelor’s program planned for 2027/28
• New Missiology Program: Overhaul of the Bachelor’s and Master’s missiology tracks that will focus on church planting and revitalization by 2026.

To complement this effort, the project of the FLTE is to implement a comprehensive three-pronged growth strategy to significantly expand its educational impact and reach:

1) On-Campus Enrollment Expansion Doubling residential student capacity from 80 to 160 students over the next five years, requiring strategic infrastructure development and faculty recruitment to maintain their commitment to excellence in theological formation.

2) Digital Learning Platform Enhancement Expanding online theological education offerings to serve 300 students (increased from 200), extending quality evangelical education to those unable to attend on-campus programs while maintaining rigorous academic standards.

3) Center for Evangelical Theology Research Establishing a dedicated research center focused on advancing evangelical scholarship.
