2 Timothée 2.2 (2T22) is a foundation created in memory of Edward Nelson (1975 – 2020), church-planter and pastor in Paris, France. The aim of the Foundation is to train up the next generation of gospel servants, by funding quality internships and theological studies, encouraging young faithful men and women to consider serving Jesus in full-time ministry.
One of the main objectives has been putting in place a good process for recruitment, candidate assessment, awarding bursaries and then supporting the training of interns. We aimed to have just a handful of interns for a pilot program in Fall 2021, but have been surprised and encouraged by the number of applicants and inquiries, several considering the possibility of an internship only because they heard about the Foundation and its goals. This is exactly what we dreamed of: not just funding a handful of internships each year, but contributing to changing the church culture, such that it becomes normal every year for churches to pray and plan for one or several interns. This is crucial to raising up a new generation of pastors, evangelists, church-planters and women’s workers. Europe’s greatest need is many more gospel-centered and culturally-relevant churches. And by far the main factor holding us back is the limited number of faithful and ambitious men and women willing and trained to serve. In God’s kindness, may he use 2 Timothée 2.2 to build his church in French-speaking Europe and beyond as we seek to give young men and women the opportunity to ‘test’ their suitability for gospel ministry, and then the very best training to start them off for a lifetime of serving Jesus.
