SOS Lyon Church

It was in 2019 that Matt and Sarah Marvane felt a strong conviction to open their own congregation, thereby establishing a presence in Lyon. Before long, a group of around 20 people had gathered; however, as their meeting space quickly became too small, they were granted the use of a larger venue in Old Lyon. Today, an average of 350 people gather every Sunday at the Saint-Joseph Church in Tassin-La-Demi-Lune.

They are a church for those who do not yet attend church; they are committed to remaining faithful in welcoming—with care and compassion—every soul that God has entrusted to then, and will entrust to them in the future. The time has come for their community to acquire its own premises and to operate with facilities that are truly fit for their purpose.

Following two previous acquisition projects—which served to prepare them and stretch their faith—they believe that, today, a brand-new chapter is beginning.

Thanks to the generosity of 513 donors, over €870,000 was raised in just six months (between January and June 2024). They are determined to continue moving forward in this spirit of faith and generosity.

They envision establishing a presence at the very heart of the Lyon metropolitan area’s expansion zone, specifically in Meyzieu. This town—home to only one other church—is easily accessible by all modes of transport and represents a key area for future growth and expansion.

Building purchase: €2.9 million
Renovation: €400,000 for construction work
Notary fees: €200,000

Needs

Priority #1: Reach €2,100,000 by May 31, 2026 (corresponding to the down payment required for the building purchase and notary fees, excluding the bank loan).
Priority #2: Raise an additional €400,000 for renovation work.

Final Beneficiaries of the Fundraising
