Sport et Foi France

The vision of Sport et Foi France (Sport and Faith) is to fulfill the Lord’s mission where people are today, and in particular in the world of sports: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations …” Matthew 28:19

Recreational (non-competitive) sports are becoming increasingly important in France: about two out of three French people say they participate in a sport (at least occasionally). The 15–24 age group is the most active, with more than 80% engaging in regular physical activity. Among adults (ages 25–49), the figure is around 60–70%.

How do they fulfill their mission?

• Share its vision of seeing people who love sports come to love God: to see them transformed by God’s love and bear witness through their lives and the way they play.
• Encourage local initiatives to use sports as a means of evangelism.
• Support and facilitate the efforts of Christians and/or churches who want to get involved.
• To train and multiply servants within the sports community: sports are an excellent way to bring young Christians together so they can get to know one another, encourage one another in the faith through testimonies, and work together for the Kingdom of God—despite their different perspectives and evangelical Christian denominations.

Their Priorities:

• To see their Sport and Faith network expand, particularly by building on the ReadySetGo strategy
• To have trained and mentored leaders
• To mobilize and send athletes from the movement on long-term, short-term, or one-time missions
• To bless young people by helping them discover Jesus Christ, motivating them to become living witnesses themselves, and helping them realize their gifts and potential

Goal for this year:

• To make 500 contacts through various initiatives and distribute 250 local group starter kits
• To train and mentor 50 Christian leaders so they can establish and lead new “Sports and Faith” groups in at least four cities
• To seek a part-time foreign missionary or local leaders to support the project.
• Consolidate these groups and evangelize at least 500 people over the course of the project, using sports as a means to reach young people and families.
• Mission trip(s) abroad for 12 “Sport and Faith” coordinators or local leaders, using sports as a means of evangelism

Their Needs:

• Representatives of the movement at churches, conventions, and gatherings, manning booths
• Instructors for “Sport and Faith” training sessions
• Administrative support: secretarial, communications, webmaster – graphic designer
• Assistance with organizing projects and events, and finding facilities
• New people to join the departments: Local Ministry, Youth, Mission, Events
• Committee for seeking prayer and financial support
• A prayer bulletin coordinator
• A reporter
• New full-time staff members
